    Padres

I think the Braves' interest in Scott Linebrink has lessened with the addition of Bob Wickman.

Buster Olney still seems to think that the Padres and Astros are in talks for a Linebrink/Ensberg swap, especially with the Padres' addition of Scott Williamson.

Buster Olney also thought the Padres were going to trade Jake Peavy for Mike Lowell.

I don't want Beltre as a Padre...but, as long as the finances are set up right, he's still a better option than what we have right now.

I'd be dissapointed we didn't get a better option, but as long as we don't end up overpaying for him I wouldn't be entirely mad about it.

When I said "overpaying" that included the concept of overpaying with prospects in the trade.

I agree........anything other than the M's taking on the majority of his salary and taking mid level guys in exchange is overpaying to me.....he's simply not worth anything more......

and if we get him and he becomes the next coming of Mike Schmidt, then I'll happily eat crow, but I would wager that wont happen

The only guy I wouldn't trade is Carillo. I'd trade the whole damn stable of potential crash and burns in our farm for any proven third baseman, considering our minor league's position players' track records.

He has proven that, for sure. But I think there's a good chance he can retun to his 2004 form if he returned to the NL, especially the West (just my guess, of course).

1 good year in his entire career only proves he has potential...which is pretty much the same thing you can ay for those in the farm.

If Beltre had sniffed similar stats to those he posted in his best season, I might agree.......but he's just been nowhere close.....and he's what 8-9 seasons into his career to do it.....how long before people realize he's just ok ?

    Cesar Carillololol

Who would you rather have: the major league third baseman who became a free agent as a 25-year old coming off an MVP season or the minor league pitcher who turned to doping to attempt a comeback at the AA level at age 28 and just got suspended for 100 games?
