As I stated in the same thread in the transactions forums I wouldn't care if he was the spawn of a secret love affair between Tommy Lasorda and Vin Scully, concieved on the pitcher's mound of Chavez Ravine as long as he provides us a good power hitting bat and a good glove at third.

That said, i'm merely arguing against the incessant feelings of angst amongst most Padre fans because we, heaven forbid, pick up someone who wore a Dodgers uniform at some point.

I'm sure the Mariners would pick up a portion, hopefully a large portion, of Beltre's contract should we trade for him, and if that ends up being the case and if we don't give up too much for him my overall sentiment will be "I would've prefered someone else but at least he's better than Vinny"

Do the Padres really want to go with the overpaid, outstanding defensive third baseman with pop again? Wasn't Vinny bad enough?

I said he had it, I did not say that it was demonstrated.

God damn did he not demonstrate that at all.

not while wearing a Padres uniform.

He went balistic when we were in....(don't hold your breath)....Colorado, but otherwise he's been shitty with the bat all year.

While looking up info about Padres trade rumors for 3B, I saw this article:

    http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports...9padnotes.html

Vinny Castilla tutored Adrian Gonzalez. Somehow, Adrian Gonzalez is still succeeding. Even more impressiveness from A-Gon, since Castilla's teachings probably put him back five years.

I'm sure Vinny knows how to play the game of baseball, so i'm not going to persume that he's a bad mentor just because he can't hit a HR outside of Colorado.

It doesn't take a good player to be a good coach...just look at Leo Mazzone.

Beltre isn't worth the money......he's far from worth $10M / year, and if the M's p/u half he's still far from worth $5M/ year....

    1 season over .300
1 season with more than 25 HR
    1 season with 100 RBI

funny all the same season.....hmmm wonder why that is ?

He did put up nearly a 1.000 OPS in July, and he has been hitting outstanding since moving into the 2 hole (.301 BA, .366 OBP, .532 SLG) like two months ago. He just flat out sucked for the first month, and he is typically a 2nd half hitter (.883 OPS 2nd half vs. .761 OPS 1st half over the past 3 years). I highly doubt the M's are looking for a salary dump, any deal would start with Carrillo.

He's probably worth more. Especially considering we will be paying some of his contract. Carrillo is hardly a top 100 prospect, don't make the mistake of overrating your prospects. Look at any deals out there, the Nats want Lasting Milledge for Livan Hernandez. Beltre is more valuable than Hernandez and Carrillo isn't half the prospect that Milledge is.

You could pay half and he's still not worth it ........ he's had one good season, his contract season.......otherwise is a subpar 3bag that doesn't hustle IMO

Carillo is touted as being a possible #2 kind of guy.......far more appitizing that a underacheiver getting paid 4 times too much

seems to me he's a top 88 prospect...or at least that's what Baseball America says.
