What's retarded about that deal? You get a young outfielder who can play in place of Brian Giles who is not 100% with that hamstring injury. Mike Lowell gives you a veteran 3rd baseman who still has some pop in his bat and is not that bad defensively either, better than what the Padres have now. The Padres have a young pitching in Cla Meredith who can step into the setup roll nicely.

That's just the rumor that's out there right now. But that prospect could possibly be George Kottaras. It's not confirmed, but that's what I've been hearing.

Still, consider that the Sox gave up a Top 10 prospect in all of baseball who is looking great now (Marte) for Crisp alone, and Lowell was part of a salary dump who is performing...great trade for the Pads if it happens

The other players that should be joining the Padres before Monday are Greg Maddux and possibly Mark Redmond, but I haven't heard anything about the Padres being interested in Redmond, nor would I want him honestly. It looks like Chan Ho will be lost for a few weeks, so having Maddux step in would give this Padres team a huge boost and it couldn't have come at a better time.

Buster Olney is reporting that the deal should be done today, but you're probably right, it could take all day for everything to be put together.

Houston Chronicle - The Texas Rangers have asked about acquiring Astros closer Brad Lidge, who might bring third baseman Hank Blalock in return.

The Astros might actually think about making this move, especially with how badly Lidge has struggled all year. Only thing is, they would have Huff, Ensberg and now Blalock to play 3rd, something tells me that Ensberg could be involved in a deal, why else would they be looking to trade for a 3rd baseman?
