I think Boras is losing some of his luster......I'm not done hoping for Zito here...but I'd rather see us address our other needs first.... top notch 3rd baseman, and power slugging OFer.....either through trade or in FA, then lets see what's left, and go from there for a pitcher

I don't care who he overpays to sit back and be an asshole for him; we'll have 30 plus in the pocket next year, and at least 10 of that better be going towards Zito's way.

Zito's not the only good pitcher on the market. No need to overpay if we don't have to.

You're crazy Leo. Who else is out there? You're cool, but man you're crazy. We need Zito just like fat man needs cake.

Leo is right. There are other FA pitchers out there than Zito who can be just as effective and help win more games. Rosenthal made a good point during the ASG. If Burnett got a 5 yr/$55 million deal, Zito would get at least 5 yr/$75 million.

So, what? We refrain from signing good pitchers until the end of time now because of inflation? If good pitchers get good money, then fork over good money. 15 milion per year, like you suggested, would be where I drew the line, but 13 per and under I'd be thrilled to offer him, and I'm fairly positive he would gladly sign such a contract to be in San Diego.

For the record, to whoever said "keep dreaming" about Zito, that is exactly why we DON'T get big names: we make it ok for Moores to not fork out the dough, monotoneously just "accepting" that we would never spend that kind of money even when we sure as hell have that much left in our "budget". For the record, though, I do agree that moores is more likely to end up buying 15 million hamburgers and 15 million worth of players rather than simply spending his created budget on our ("his") Padres.

    you're missing the point OBBF

There are other pitchers just as good on the market that aren't represented by Scott Boras.

Nobody's saying throw in the towel because one guy hired Boras, we're simply saying that Zito's probably no longer the wisest option because he, unlike others perhaps, would come overpriced.

It's bad business to focus on one guy and give him whatever it takes to bring him in when you have other options.
