    The Surf Dawgs (sans Rickey Henderson) are currently cellar dwellers after reigning in the GBL's inaugural season.......

    6:06 p.m. June 29, 2006

    Former major league slugger Jose Canseco has signed with the San Diego Surf Dawgs baseball team.
    Canseco's first game with the Surf Dawgs – who play in the independent Class A Golden Baseball League – will be Saturday night in Chico against the Outlaws. His first home game will be July 7 against Chico at 7:05 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.

    Canseco – who will turn 42 on Sunday – is signed through the remainder of the GBL season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

    This must be the steroids and beer league, if they are going to go ahead and sign Canseco.

    Oh, and I was listening to Sports Center and Baseball Tonight when they reported this, and Canseco will be the DH, and "showcase his knuckleball on the pitching staff." This has got to be a desperate time for his new team, or a publicity stunt by both the team and Canseco.

    No they do steroid testing in this league, in fact if you're caught just once you're banned for good.

    I don't have any link to a story but my local paper reported today that Rafael Palmiero is gearing up for an appearance somwhere......since the GBL is into entertaining.....it could be interesting to see Cansucko pitch a kunckler to Pinocchio Boy.....with Rickey looking on while he admires his championship ring from 2005........
