Sean Marshall = mini version of Doug Davis, IMO.

I can certainly see the Padres taking 3 games here ... probably will split though, unless the offense is very opportunistic like it has been so far in May.

Maddux had a rough start in his last outing giving up a grand slam, I like the pitching matchup against Chris Young, not sure if Maddux will have two off-games in a row, but he's certainly hittable now.

What's up with these four-game series that end on Monday? Ugh.

you say that as though they'd still win even if they weren't pitching good.

Pitching wins ball games...but yes, you do have to score some, as opposed to not scoring at all (which is what they were doing prior to the 5 game winning streak)

as I said, they do have to score some, as opposed to practically not at all

    bottom line:
Mediocre hitting with good pitching will win more often than not.
Mediocre pitching with good hitting will be .500 at best.

Just look at the Reds the past few years.

    Padres

This team has been kept in a lot of games by their pitching. Jake has kept 0's on the board but got no help from their offense, same with Woody and Chris in a few of their starts. If the offense comes around in at least 3-4 of those games, this would be a different scenario.

    yep, this is exactly true.

I'm speaking in general terms, but yes, it's rather obvious that with this year's team, (before the winning streak) if they had any offense at all they'd be in 1st without a doubt.

nobody said anything about our pitching......we were talking about hitting.......we're getting pitching, and before this streak ZERO hitting, hell even on this streak it's been more timely hitting that anything else.....only twice did we really open up a can of whoopass.........the rest was timely ( which is great also )

    Padres

Look, this Padre team has always been a slow starter our of the gate. We're one month into the season, let's see what they do from here on out before we start freaking out.

this is true, and i'm not disputing it.

But I will say this, if the hitting continues, but the pitching "goes to sleep" we'll lose just as much as we did in April.

Again, i'm speaking in general terms, not really in specific relation to the 2006 San Diego Padres

Peavy + Young + Chan Ho = disgustingly disgusting

can he get some freakin run support? 9 innings of 2-hit ball ... still a 0-0 ballgame
