Well, Diaz was a 1 star scrub when the Mets cut him a couple of seasons ago. He was a pleasant gamble.

Farina is a nice 4.5 star reliever, and Diaz could find success in the rotation (if placed there) possibly. Good deal for both sides.

That's odd Farina was listed as a SP with just a 4 in endurance.

He's been that way for awhile and I am surprised that:
a.) Someone switched him to an SP with that endurance (maybe he had a 5 once)
b.) No one has changed him to relief or even better, closer.

Well, I plan on ending that and making him a reliever. Go Ignacio!

He had 5 endurance when I had him and when it looked like he wasnt going to pan out as a Reliever I packaged him and Wimbley for Bevis, when I decided to quit fire sales and try to build around the youth.

And yes I had. He stunk up the pen in 2013 so i just switched him back to being a starter so hed get more consistant work and thought Id put him back in the pen later.

You haven't had the kid for two seasons, I was more speaking of the previous Reds GM who dealt for him (since I imagine bjd probably overlooked him while keeping an eye on all his top prospects each sim.)

Farina was expendable, I have relief prospects, I need guys who can stop blowing games for me now and in the next 1-2 seasons. Plus I kinda wanted Uptons contract gone. He is making too much money for a #8 hitter and a guy who isn't even a great defensive SS... I can fill that production from within my system for cheaper.

I admittedly went a little overboard with spending this past off-season, but I shed some payroll and I got younger, so I'm pretty pleased with it... once I get a bullpen, and a bonafide offensive star, this team is going to do some damage.

In the past I would not have wanted to take on Upton, but now my finances are great and I could use Upton's bat. He should be a solid DH (better than Lusk and his sub .300 OBP).

Yeah, he isn't awful... don't expect much power, but he gets on base at a decent clip. Not a bad player, but for the role he was in on my team, it just seemed undefined... I have plenty of infielders, so I can fill the void. I actually think this trade makes me a better defensive team.

If Nady didn't take a tailspin ratings wise, and I didn't overpay him, I'd try to deal him too... but Justin Todd isn't ready to take over third just yet...
