Who ends up being the big winner with the trade deadline having passed?

Some players are just a couple month rentals, some players have new homes. And then some of the prospects moved for the veterans, one day, may cause those contenders to regret trading them. John Smoltz, Jeff Bagwell, Hanley Ramirez, Neftali Perez, Cliff Lee.. were all once dealt as prospects. Eventually we'll look back and say.. yep.

Who will be the biggest winner?

As much as I love the Jays, and hate on them too, I am glad that there were no trades made this year on their part. It seemed to me that the market was rather weak, and that there wasn't much coming back from the buyers. Sellers got the raw end of a lot of deals to me it seems.

I've read that they've been tabbed as losers by most "analysts". They didn't have much to deal, and even then, it would have been gold to others because of the market being down. Look at what the Dodgers gave up for Dotel, for example. That's a pretty solid package for a pitcher is okay at best. Downs and Gregg could have gotten something like that, or more. What exactly is the point of keeping not that great of talent...? To finish fourth or third every year? Settling for mediocrity isn't a winner by any means.

This is just like last year with Halladay. People said they were losers for not making a deal than. I can agree with that, but this year seems different to me. The talent the Jays were going to give up wasn't as good "Doc" and I think everyone could agree with that. But also look at the money being owed, Bautista at 6 million is a great contract IMO. Halladay was a lot more money. I look at the other trades made and there was a lot of extra money being traded. I'd expect that there would be some traded money involved in a Jays trade. So what I am saying is that AA didn't get a bunch of lower end talent, and end up paying a bunch of money for a player not on their team.

P.S. I have had a little to drink, so none of this may make sense.

Toronto should have at least dealt Bautista. No way his stock is ever any higher and I doubt he keeps this up into next year.

Even though the Yanks did a lot in the remaining hours I think going back as far as Cliff Lee gives the Rangers more leaverage.

Hey hey hey, I like what the Giants did as they got two solid and much needed relievers while giving up nothing of use. But not to sound biased, it was clearly the Rangers. They got rid Salty, added Lee, Cantu and Guzman and traded for Molina earlier. The Rangers are going to cause a lot or trouble in the playoffs. I would be scared.
