The Colts won the Super Bowl.

Tony Dungy becomes the first black...ahem, excuse me African-American coach to win the big game.

The talks of Peyton being perhaps the greatest QB are now in full gear since he has fulfilled his conquest in winning the game.

But thats not why I'm happy.

    Not Hardly...

Finally, after five months in exile, the game we all love, which makes us post on these lovely message boards, comes back for another exciting 2007 season.

In less than ten days, pitchers and catchers will report to Spring Training. A few days after that, the rest of the players.

Practices will be held, interteam games will be played, and scrimmages will be completed.

And then we get to Opening Day.

Opening Day once meant something to Cincinnati fans. The city would shut down, parades were held all up and down downtown Cincinnati. Where every game was held at home until 1990 when the Reds played the Astros on the road. Later on that year, as no true Redleg should forget, they went on and became wire-to-wire World Series Champions.

Regardless of how good or bad the Reds are, my Grandma makes it a point to go to each and every opening day, as long as I can remember. She's 65 and when she's at the ballpark she's 13 again, she always tells me. Inside the Reds Hall of Fame, there is a big panoramic shot of old Crosley and she can pick out the exact seat she sat at every game she went to when she was a youngin. Impressive.

I have yet to experience an Opening Day for myself. I do want to goto this years Rangers home opener against the Red Sox. I missed out on the opportunity to goto a Rangers game last season, I'll make sure to goto a couple this season.

I encourage all of you to embrace this baseball season. It is our sport, that we love. It brings us to these very forums to talk about with men and women alike.

So wear your teams apparel, talk your teams miseries, and watch the lovely game of baseball. 'Cause its coming soon, folks. And I, for one, am ready to see some games.

Lets make the 2007 season here at S3F the best yet. Tell your friends, the guy you talk baseball with at the bar, or your fellow fans at the game. We talk baseball here, and we always will.

With a negative 20 something windchill in Ohio today, it sounds crazy, but I was thinking about baseball. And even with becoming increasingly jaded with how the Reds are managed, I still have hope for that miracle season and I hope fans of other teams down on their luck has that as well. It's amazing to think that baseball really only has a couple of months of just sheer boredom (the period after the winter meetings and the rule 5 in which most of the big name free agents are gone), yet those weeks are some of the longest in the year. Thoughts of Florida or Arizona, a new year and a new chance for success, and the possibility that we will have some really memorable moments in the game we love that we can one day tell our grandchildren is an exciting thought.

I missed opening day last season, I am hoping not to make it two in a row as it's worth all the boredom the slow months of the offseason can throw at us.

By the way, no matter how cold it is (or snowy) I know when I read a few reports about the catchers and pitchers showing up to camp that I will just have to go out to the backyard and find someone to pass with.

I can't wait for retirement and move to Atlanta go I can finally be able to attend more than 1 or 2 games a year. I have been looking forward to Spring Training ever since last October when the playoffs were over and the Cardinals beat the Tigers in the World Series. I don't watch much football or basketball. Baseball is what I live for each and ever year of my life.

i can't wait....i'm wearing my reds gear (not that i don't all the time) but i'm so psyched...even though the managment is doing nothing, whenenver 6:15 or 12:15 rolls around, its game time, and for the next 3 hours theres not a worry in the world.

until we lose. then i drink.

    thanks for reading

Nice write-up ghetto. I am very excited as well. For some reason, this offseason seemed to flyball compared to last. I think it may have a lot to do with my Saints being so succesful for once and also that I have had a lot going on at work. But nevertheless, the season is just around the corner. ST is one of my favorite times because you start to get the pictures in on players arriving and you get to speculate on their new look. Like so an so got fat or so and so has been in the gym. Look at that freaks new hairdo. I love those times.

I cannot wait for this season!
