    Pirates Nomar a Pirate?

    http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/trib.../s_399945.html

A Pirates source confirmed Thursday that the club has expressed interest in free-agent infielder Nomar Garciaparra, who spent an injury-plagued 2005 season with the Chicago Cubs.

"I will say that we're going to investigate all possibilities at that position," Littlefield said. "Some of those (players) may be guys who are established and bouncing back from injuries or changing positions."

Garciaparra, 33, fits Littlefield's description perfectly.

A former five-time American League All-Star and twice that league's batting champion with the Boston Red Sox from 1996-2004, Garciaparra played in only 62 games with the Cubs last season when he suffered a ruptured tendon in his groin on April 20.

Nomar in a Pirates uni would be weird...but as long as he doesn't get too much, it'll be a fine signing. Nomar can still hit, and he's useful, and somehow, becoming a bit underrated.

    It won't happen.

I saw this the other day and didn't think it was noteworthy. There are 20 teams intrested in Nomar, and at least 15 are ahead of the Pirates on his wish list. I'd rather see what Wiggy can do at 3rd, and then in August go to Jose(Bautista).

Nomar could generate fan buzz. And could be a solid marketing strategy since Nosemar is still popular.
