    Pirates New Pirates Season Thread

The other one just got too old and with the new kid and all, I just didn't have time to keep it up.

Duke goes tonight for win #7 against Jason Marquis and the Cards. I'll be at the game, so I won't be able to do a gameday, but I'll give some thoughts after the game.

    10-0 win last night.

Kinda disappointed about Duke though, could've been 7-0. He's only supposed to miss one start though(ankle). The bullpen picked him up nicely and preserved the shutout.

Nate McLouth hit his first career homer in the game, Jack Wilson had 3 hits and Jason Bay had 2 hits as well. Big return to the majors for Ty Wigginton, who went 2 for 4 with a triple and 3 RBI.

We get the STL again tonight...and a look at the Cy Young, Chris Carpenter. Kip Wells goes for Pittsburgh, and it should be a long night. I'll be around for updates on the game.

    5-2 through 5 in Pittsburgh.

Mackowiak has a pair of hits and RBIs. JRod has a homer for St. Louis. Carpenter has been solid, but not great. Kip Wells doesn't make it out of the first, nice mopup from Vogelsong. *sigh*

Lost the first 3 over the weekend to the damn Reds. *sigh* It's going to be a long month of September.

Hopefully Maholm, Snell and Doumit look good in the last month, it'll give us something to look forward to.

Rained out today. Starting a 3 game at Milwaukee tomorrow, and Maholm *should* be pushed back to tomorrow.

Hopefully we can take 2 of 3...

    8:05 start this evening.

Paul Maholm makes his major league debut against Doug Davis.

Glad the game is in Milwaukee, because there's a shitload of rain headed this way.

He's pitched pretty well this year, still not alot of buzz around him. He's not seen as one of the "Big Five" of the future right now, so to speak, but he was a first rounder. And I know I'd be there if it was a home game...

    AA Stats: 6-2, 3.21 ERA in 81.2 IP(16 Starts)
    AAA Stats: 1-1, 3.58 ERA in 35.2 IP(6 Starts)

I don't think he's ready, but I'd love to see him pitch well. Seing the young guys pitch well offers, some hope, ya know?

Maholm gets out of bases loaded 1 out without giving up a run. 5-0 Pittsburgh after 4. RBI's for JWilson(3), Doumit and Wigginton for Pittsburgh.

Only 3 hits for Milwaukee through 4 .

8 shutout innings, and a win in his major league debut for Paul Maholm.

    Final was 6-0.

Torres worked a perfect nineth as well.

Redman-Ohka tomorrow afternoon to wrap up the series. Hoping for a sweep.

Weeks and Hardy have homered for the Brewers, both 2 run shots. Bay has homered(#25) for the Pirates, and Doumit has an RBI single.

Didn't Mesa have some 30 game save streak or something recently? Not sure, saw it on ESPN I think.
