    2014 Pittsburgh Pirates Season Thread

We'll see how far I get with this one.

We start it off with yesterdays sad news...

Pirates pitching prospect Jameson Taillon will undergo Tommy John surgery.
Taillon injured the elbow late in spring training and after a couple of opinions the decision has been made that going under the knife is the best option. One of the top pitching prospects in the game, Taillon had been poised to make his major league debut this season. Now it seems likely that he probably won't be an option for the big club until at least midseason next year.
With our bad luck on Tommy John pitching prospects, this kinda feels like another bust waiting to happen. Let us hope not.

3 series wins to start the season. Pedro's awesome .229/.341/.686 would be awesome if it held up all year.

Tallion will be fine. The pirates have a lot of SP Depth. Offense is where the focus should be. It's good to see snider starting off well but we'll see how long it lasts.

I'd be fine if Snider and Tabata can hold out until July, so we don't have a potential Super 2 problems with Polanco.

Starling walks it off. Thanks Sergio!

(He needs to learn to speak English, though. Gaby Sanchez translating his post game interview kinda takes away from the moment, a little.)

Alvarez needs to pick it up. This offseason they need to get a bat, trade some of the Pitching depth they have for someone to hit behind clutch. Alvarez is a 6 hitter. Power numbers are down this year and hes not making adjusmtents, Ryan Howard 2.0 soon. I would be opposed to getting Byrd back from the Phillies and trying Marte out at SS as long as philly picks up most of the salary
