    The Contending Pittsburgh Pirates

Only 3 games out, throwing the ball great, young hitting and defense is getting the job... without an elite team in the NL Central the Pirates could be for real imo... I expect them to finish within 5 games of .500 in either direction but this is a huge step

The Pirates have taken the series against the Red Sox and are just 3 games out. Pirates finally doing well in interleague play.

2 games out of first at the halfway mark and have a .500 record in interleague play. Improvement!!

Pirates on road to respectability - SweetSpot Blog - ESPN

Good read as the Pirates are now just 1.5 games out of first on July 5th with young guys like Presley and d'Arnaud impressing.

Fans showing up only when the team starts winning?

    Yeah, that doesn't impress me.

Fans usually don't show up when there is no product on the field. This isn't football.

We going to do this again? Very, very , very , very , very few teams sell out or have huge crowds on a regular basis when they are proverbial losers. Many don't sell out on a regular basis when they contend on a regular basis. The team shows no improvement for decades yet fans are still expected to shell out for ML prices? I don't think so, but have shown up even though there is no guarantee the team will go the distance.

Bucs fans stayed away last season and that IS football.

i understand fans arent going to fill the stadium when the team is losing. I'm just not going to call it impressive when the fair weather fans start showing up again in fair weather.

I love it! The Pirates were good when I was growing up and I'll be rooting for them. Let's see if they make any moves before the deadline.
