Pirates Claim Xavier Paul

Pirates claimed OF Xavier Paul off waivers from the Dodgers.
Paul was designated for assignment by the Dodgers last Monday. He has posted some strong numbers in the minors and the Bucs will hope that his talent shines with a change of scenery. The 26-year-old outfielder has 160 big league plate appearances to his name.

Not sure where he will play in the Pirates OF. Tabata, McCutchen and Diaz/Jones lock up the three spots and Bowker is the 5th OFer who can also play 1B. Paul put up a .291/.360/.449 batting line in the minors and never really got much of a chance in LA so he is worth taking a flier on.

Bowker was DFA'd for Paul. Huntington did the right thing as Pearce was rumored to be the odd man out but Pearce is a better hitter and a bit more versatile.

Paul went 2-4 with 2 RBI and a SB to help the Pirates beat the Rockies.
