    Pirates Pirates Claim Brandon Wood

Pirates claimed SS Brandon Wood off waivers from Angels.
As they were expected to do. Once one of the top prospects in all of baseball, Wood has been an utter disaster through parts of five major-league seasons, posting a .168 average and .197 on-base percentage in 494 plate appearances. However, he is still believed to have some potential as a power bat, and certainly has more upside than the man the Pirates are currently starting at shortstop, Ronny Cedeno. Expectations for Wood's time in Pittsburgh should remain extremely low — he's not a player just in need of a "change of scenery" — but if anyone can finally tap his once limitless potential, it's Bucs manager and noted hitting guru Clint Hurdle.
Hurdle will have to work overtime to cure Wood's poor K/B ratio. Huntington gets rids of busts like LaRoche and Duke and brings in busts like Wood and Marte. Genius Hopefully for the Pirates sake, Wood can feast on weak NL Central pitching and get into some kind of groove to take over for Cedeno.

Great addition. What are they losing in doing this?

Why does this sound so familiar?

How is dumping shit-covered players and getting better ones unrealistic? I do know about the Pirates and their payroll problems and that's why I haven't said for them to go out and spend heavy on big time free agent players. Just to stop paying players that suck and do nothing to help win ballgames. You're ****ing clueless man!!

    maybe this one?

Glad Laroche was designated for assignment. He sucked this year. That possible upgrade for a utility player who will somehow make less money will sure boost the winning % of the Pirates. Buying my playoff tickets now.

All the Pirates have done to their team from last year is replaced a few bench playing top prospect busts with just as BAD bench playing former top prospect busts. They saved minor money to be just as bad.

They weren't going to sign any upgrades ...certainly not for a discount over the players they HAD. Also, the minor upgrades they would acquire or COULD acquire this offseason would not only provide ZERO more wins to the team but most likely cost MUCH more than not only the players the Pirates ALREADY had but much more than what other teams would need to offer them...

    the Pirates sucks.

    the managers suck.

    the developmental team sucks.

Cute little moves wont do it. The current structure of the team means they'll simply have to get LUCKY ..extremely fucking lucky...to be anywhere close to being in contention. When the management and developmental team sucks...in some cases money can bail you out. The Pirates owners wont spend it unless there are circumstances in which they are able to contend...those circumstances will never come to be unless the management and developmental teams get their shit together...and even then ....because of 19 years of hell... i dont believe SHIT they say and doubt they'll open their wallets.

First fireworks night is coming up soon. Grab your tickets! Good seats still available!

YAY Sabu had something to say and he said it I love how the manager sucks after 19 games and the player development has done a pretty damn good job too. Pirates are moving in the right direction.

Sabu, you have to realize LTR is ALWAYS right.

I don't feel your pain, as a Yankees fan, but I can only imagine.

God bless you for still donning the eye-patch after all the years of failure and mediocrity. If all you have is some sharp sarcasm, you're one of the lucky few.

Nice! I'm pulling for him...he always seemed like he'd be a good major leaguer in the right situations. There was just too much pressure with the Angels and his development was looked at too harshly.

Not a bad debut for Wood. He went 1-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored. The Pirates won by two!
