The Pirates are 1-0 after an opening day win for the 5th straight season yesterday, defeating the Cubs on the legs of a grand slam by N. Walker and a two run homer by Andrew McCutchen.

Another one from Chicago this afternoon.

Tabata-Walker-McCutchen.. with their powers combined.. Captain Pirate... or nevermind. The pirates could have a decent lineup if those 3 all do well this season, it's a good way to start the lineup. Just need Alvarez and jones to provide power.

Pirates signed LHP Dan Meyer to a minor league contract.
Meyer was released by the Phillies over the weekend. The 29-year-old left-hander spent most of the 2010 season at the Triple-A level, but posted a 3.09 ERA and 56/21 K/BB ratio over 58 1/3 innings with the Marlins in 2009. He'll begin the year with Triple-A Indianapolis.

Nothing wrong with a little depth.
