Pirates Pirates discussion extensions with Wilson and Sanchez

News briefs: Pirates discuss extensions for Wilson, Sanchez - MLB - CBSSports.com Baseball

The Pittsburgh Pirates are discussing contract extensions with shortstop Jack Wilson and NL All-Star second baseman Freddy Sanchez, although no signing appears imminent and either or both could be traded before the season ends.
Lock them up. Even if they still want to trade them, longer contracts could make them more appealing to trade partners.

Two solid players. Rumors had been saying that they'd be traded, especially Wilson after his comments critical of the front office. But I guess the best thing for the team would be to keep them there.

Jack said he'd take a paycut to stay as of yesterday. I'd love to move his contract, but if he'll restructure, his defense is very valuable to the young pitching staff.

As for Sanchez, I still see him moving on. I don't know how the club views Delwyn Young at 2B, because he's pretty much all we have there since Shelby Ford and Brian Bixler have been awful.

So in conclusion, I see Jack staying and I'm 85% sure Freddy is going.

    Or not....

Freddy Sanchez, Jack Wilson reject extension offers from Pittsburgh Pirates - ESPN

Apparently both players did not respond positively to contract talks, and the Pirates have cut off negotiations. That's a signal that deals with the two of them probably won't get done. Now, the question is, what do you think the Pirates will be looking for in return for these two guys in a trade?

There's no real point in keeping them since you've sold off Morgan and McLouth.

    Obviously moreso McLouth than Morgan.

I still see us keeping Jack unless we get an intresting offer for him. I tend to forget that we do have Ramon Vazquez if we do make a deal to fill in at short until Bixler or another shortatop pans out.

BucsDugouts.com suggest maybe it was just a ploy to drum up some more trade value...which is possible.

    So in conclusion...

    Chances of being moved:
    Sanchez: 75%
    LaRoche: 70%
    Grabow: 60%
    Wilson: 50%
    Grabow: 45%

That seems about right. We're one of the few sellers on this market though with intresting talent, though. So it certainly wouldn't surprise me if they all went, or if none went, really. Freddy may be good enough to bring back a draft pick(haven't really looked into how that works, but it seems like he should be a Type B, at least.)
