Nationals Pirates acquire OF Lastings Milledge

Pirates acquired OF Lastings Milledge and RHP Joel Hanrahan from the Nationals for OF Nyjer Morgan and LHP Sean Burnett.
I think personally the tradeoff of Milledge for Morgan is pretty even. Morgan can post a great OBP and even though he is older and without the ceiling that Milledge has, for what he is, he is pretty effective. Milledge has baggage but a lot of talent too. The key for me is Hanrahan He has a good arm, just hasn't put it together yet. If he does, the Pirates are going to look pretty smart when its all said and done.

I would have rather had Morgan, the combo with McCutchen was fun. And I will not get to witness it in August. Damnit.

They traded for a guy who showed up late to his own surgery....

I'm willing to bet Milledge never realizes his true potential.

Pirates GM Neal Huntington told the Pirates’ Web site regarding Milledge. “With some maturity, with some guidance, with some direction, we might have ourselves a pretty good player here. It’s a chance we were willing to take.”

HAHAHA. With all that work, they MIGHT have a pretty good player. It's definitely worth giving up a guy who's already a good player for a guy who "might be" with all that work put in. Not to mention that Milledge is hurt, has a known attitude problem, and SHOWED UP LATE TO HIS OWN SURGERY!

My, you're right. Milledge is batting .300 for the Pirates while Nyjer Morgan fractured his hand and is out for the season. The Natinals blow it again.

At least until that happened, it was completely in favor of the Nats. He was and still would be a better fit with McCutchen and Big Stiff Jones.

Now it comes down to which Hanrahan shows up for 2010. The 2008 edition, the one that allowed 1 ER after August last season, or the one that posted a 13 plus ERA in June last season. Hanrahan is one of those fun pitchers that should be on the mets.

Is this guy ever going to get it together? For me, this would be the place for him to take off. I think the mix of Milledge, Mcutchen, and Jones could be a solid punch together in the Buc order. I am pretty excited to see this team this year and Milledge is part of that excitement. But will I be dissapointed?
