    Jaret Wright Won't Go Away

Pirates signed RHP Jaret Wright to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Wright is a long shot to help the Pirates, but there's no harm in taking a flier on him. The 32-year-old missed most of 2007 with shoulder troubles, and there's no guarantee that he'll be any healthier this year. He could start off in Triple-A and hope that a rotation spot opens up.
The man just seems to keep getting work. I see him getting hurt on June 2nd.

I doubt he'll make the team, but he's always had that intresting blend of arm and semi-success that keeps getting him shots.

Doesn't it seem like he's been around forever, and he's only 32. Wow.

(Truthfully, this is the first intresting piece of Pirates news for the better part of this month.)

Pirates signed pitchers Hector Carrasco and Casey Fossum to minor-league contracts.
The Pirates are hoping Carrasco can return to his pre-2007 form, which is a long shot, but a worthy gamble. Fossum showed last season that he's not better in relief than he is as a starter, but the veteran figures to get a shot at cracking the Pittsburgh bullpen.
More throw away guiys who could be useful. I liked Fossum when he first came up with Boston but he never developed to be anything special.

Yeah, Fossum was intresting coming up, but could never pan out. He's still a decent lefty, and on a minor league deal, he's worth a look, I guess.

    Pirates released RHP Jaret Wright.
Wright would have been a free agent come Thursday if not added to the team's 40-man roster, and was always a bit of a long shot to make the team. He currently sports a 3.38 ERA after eight innings, but has four walks to just one strike out. He'll likely catch on somewhere.
OK, now he will go away

No he won't, he pitched well this spring, he's still going to get a spot on SOME team.

I have to believe, if we wouldn't have traded for Yates, he'd be in the bullpen.
