The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting the Pirates and Red Sox have discussed a deal that would send Salomon Torres to Boston for Wily Mo Pena.
It'd be a great idea for the Pirates, but Torres' stuff probably wouldn't translate well at all in the American League. He might be a downgrade from what the Red Sox have now. The Red Sox likely will keep trying to do better.Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Salomon Torres might remain in Pittsburgh through the trade deadline because of the grievance he filed against the team asking out of his contract.
That Torres wanted out is hurting his chances of getting out. Torres has maintained that Pirates general manager Dave Littlefield led him to believe the team would lease one of his two baseball academies in the Dominican Republic and, as a result, he signed a two-year, $6.5 million extension that he feels was $1.5 million below market value. He'd be declared a free agent in the unlikely event that he wins the grievance, so it'd be very risky for Boston or another team to trade for him.Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
