Jose Contreras needs elbow surgery and is done for the season.
Not a shock, given his setback during a bullpen session Monday. While Contreras believes he will be back next season, he wont know for sure until he undergoes the procedure. For what it's worth, the veteran right-hander is confident that he does not have any ligament damage.
Contreras only threw 14 innings this season so the Phillies are used to not having him. He would have been a big boost to the bullpen had he made it back. He was the only Phillie reliever I didn't want the Giants to have to face last postseason. Jose was that nasty!
