Phillies signed LHP Dennys Reyes to a one-year, $1.1 million contract with a $1.35 million option for 2012.
Reyes drew a surprising amount of interest this winter despite struggling against left-handers in 2010. He did post a solid 3.55 overall ERA, but most of his success came against righties and he's more of a common middle reliever than a lefty specialist. The Phillies surely know that. They'll use him as a guy in the sixth or seventh inning to clear out a couple of threats.
I saw Reyes pitch a lot last year and he wasn't as good as his numbers show. He definitely sucked against lefties but his walks are what hurt the Cards. The money seems right so its not a bad deal but the Phillies best not use him in critical situations.
