The rotation may require another adjustment now, after Antonio Bastardo - himself an imperfect substitute for the injured Myers - suffered a left-shoulder strain last night in the fourth inning of a 10-4 loss to Tampa Bay at Tropicana Field. The Phillies have dropped eight of their last nine games, and lost two of three in a sloppy series here.

Bastardo, 23, may have thrown his last pitch for a while. The lefthander's velocity was consistently in the mid- to high-80s before he left the game, down from the low- to mid-90s of recent starts. Although the Phillies do not need a fifth starter until July 4, triple-A pitchers Andrew Carpenter and Carlos Carrasco are strong candidates to replace Bastardo, and the Phillies continue to explore trade possibilities.
Bastardo said through interpreter Raul Ibanez that he has felt recent stiffness in the shoulder, but the problem worsened during last night's game. "It's a tightness that I feel, that I can't throw the way I want to," he said. "I felt it [before], but not as much as I did today."
The pitcher said he would consult with the team medical staff today. No further details about the injury were immediately available.

And the Mets, after yesterday, pull to within .5 games. I know the Phillies have some bad injuries, but there'll be no better trade deadline pick up than Reyes, Beltran, Delgado, Maine, Perez, and Billy Wagner.

He'll be the 7th inning man, and a second lefty out of the pen. I think that if he accepts his role, he'll be a pretty solid reliever for us. He won't get resigned after the season, but would you rather have Billy Wagner or Chad Durbin/Clay Condrey/Scott Eyre coming in for the 7th inning? I'd rather have Wagner.

Well, most of them should be. I mean, Beltran's knee bruise, Reyes' hammy tendon(NOT THE ACTUAL HAMMY), Maine's dead arm, Perez' knee strain should all heal fine and not cause much long term damage. Wagner is having Tommy John, and most people return fine(eventually), so he may not be himself right away. Putz and Delgado, who knows, we'll see.

No matter what, I would guess that out of the 7 guys, if 3-4 of them come back at 85%+ strength, there'll be no better deadline pickup...

Still you have to figure the phillies just suck at interleague. They had the same funk last year and look what happened.

Difference is the rotation and bullpen are playing DOWN to the level of talent they should have last year. This year's Phils team is significantly worse than last year(outside of the lineup).

And another one down, another one down, another one bites the dust:

Right-hander Chan Ho Park came on to relieve Hamels and immediately induced a comebacker to the mound off the bat of Toronto's Alex Rios. As Park dropped to his left knee to field the ball, he crouched awkwardly and seemed to be in pain. After throwing to first to retire Rios and end the inning, Park fell to the ground, where he stayed for a few minutes before leaving on his own accord.

Park was said to have a right knee contusion afterward.

Philadelphia Phillies place starter Antonio Bastardo on 15-day DL - ESPN

Bastardo to the DL. No word on when he may return. GM Ruben Amaro on acquiring a pitcher:

"When you have this many teams in the race it's very thin," Amaro said. "It's always thin. Again, there were three teams who got pitching last year. Three teams out of 30. That's 10 percent.
"We can say, 'Pretty please can we have a pitcher?' but that doesn't mean one will become available."
