Phillies Ryan Madson rejects 3 year offer

Madson turns down Phillies' offer | phillies.com: News

The Phillies offered 3 year, 12 million to avoid arbitration and Madson rejected. Hopefully they can work out a deal ASAP.

That could be the best he could get. Just too greedy.

I agree. Relievers really aren't that hard to find. You can always get lucky and get a J.C. Romero or Scott Eyre for cheap.

Does he think he plays for the Royals? Only they are dumb enough to go higher than $5 million a year for a reliever. Madson should have taken the deal because he is now likely to go to a arbitration hearing and get less than $4 million.

Arbitration is not necessarily a good deal for either side. Management has to stand by their deal and explain it. The player has to sell his reasoning. The arbitrator decides where, between the offers, the real deal lies.
    Neither side wins, really.

I don't know what Madson is thinking, but I also kinda don't know why the Phils even offered that much. Especially on a long term deal. Relievers are so volatile, outside of closers, it's risky to give them more than a year or 2(just ask the Mets and Scott Schoeneweis).
