The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Philies have acquired LHP Scott Eyre from the Cubs for Single-A prospect pitcher Brian Schlitter.
Eyre was designated for assignment on Tuesday. He'd struggled of late, but was still limiting lefties to a .259 BAA against so far this season. He'll likely assume a specialist role in Philadelphia, with J.A. Happ headed back to Triple-A. Schlitter, drafted in the 16th round last year, was 4-3 with a 2.22 ERA at Single-A.
I like the move but only because Eyre knows how to pitch in a small park. Whether he can do it or not is another question. He can still be an effective lefty specialist for the Phillies who added more depth to the bullpen.
