I like the move but only because Eyre knows how to pitch in a small park. Whether he can do it or not is another question. He can still be an effective lefty specialist for the Phillies who added more depth to the bullpen. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Philies have acquired LHP Scott Eyre from the Cubs for Single-A prospect pitcher Brian Schlitter.
Eyre was designated for assignment on Tuesday. He'd struggled of late, but was still limiting lefties to a .259 BAA against so far this season. He'll likely assume a specialist role in Philadelphia, with J.A. Happ headed back to Triple-A. Schlitter, drafted in the 16th round last year, was 4-3 with a 2.22 ERA at Single-A.
