Phillies Former All Star C Lieberthal Retires

On Sunday former All Star catcher primarily for the Phillies, Mike Lieberthal signed a 1 day contract with the team and then officially retired as a member of the Phillies. This seems to be the trend as these players are signing these 1 day contracts and then retiring with the team they started their careers with or had the most production with. From his stats he was a very good ctcher in his day.

I know a lot of people don't like guys coming back just to retire with a certain team but I am not one of them. I am the guy who hates people signing a one day contract and wasting someone else's at bat Mike was a staple behind the plate for the Phillies and his 1999 season was awesome to watch. He was mashing to ball and made amazing plays that year with the glove. Seeing him in that Dodger blue was sickening really. Congrats on a worthy career and hopefully he will stick around baseball in some manner.

I like it when players come back to the team they primarily played for with a one day contract and retire.

What I don't like is when a player signs a one day contract with his original team, "retires", then signs with another team.

I hated Lieberthal....but more because he beat up on my Mets. Great ballplayer, good luck to him upon retirement...

Now that just wouldn't be right.
