Lidge To Start On DL

Phillies placed RHP Brad Lidge on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 21, following right knee surgery.
Lidge isn't happy with the decision, but he'll be eligible to return April 5 and expects to be ready then. Tom Gordon will spend the first few days as the Phillies' closer. Travis Blackley could make the team as a middle reliever.

Lidge isn't happy but this is the right decision. Knees are tricky and pitchers rely on their legs way too much not to be cautious about this. I just hope Lidge can get his career back on track.

I think this was a mistake picking him up. He is on the downward side of his career, and I feel he still has not completely regained his confidence (i.e.-see Derrick Turnbow of the Brewers).

It was a risk, and it may not pay off, which stinks. But Lidge could either be a huge pickup, or a huge bust.

IN the closer's role though. I thought he lost that and did better as the setup guy? I am getting old and my memory is NOT what it once was though.

He did return to the closer role late in the year, but you're right. He only had 19 saves (albeit limited chances), so we don't know if it will affect him

I am not worried as much about his physical injuries, I would be more worried about the mental injuries. Confidence is a huge factor, and when the pressure is on, I think he losses his focus more times than not.
