Phillies designated infielder Wes Helms for assignment.
A bad, bad signing from Pat Gillick, whose team received five homers and 39 RBI in return for a $5.45 million contract. Helms is likely to end up with the Braves, Dodgers or Marlins, though it might not happen until after he clears waivers. The Phillies have been trying to trade him, but the $2.9 million he's still owed has proven to be too much of an obstacle.
Saw this happening when they got Feliz who has more power and better defense. Helms could go back to the Braves and backup Jones but I see him going to Florida where their will be more playing time. As long as the Giants don't get him, I'm satisfied
