PHILLIES 6, INDIANS 4
at Clearwater, Fla.
Friday, March 2

Indians at the plate: Casey Blake and Kelly Shoppach hit solo home runs in the second inning off Phillies starter Brett Myers. Ben Francisco added a two-run shot in the seventh off reliever Ryan Madson.

Phillies at the plate: Ryan Howard showed no offseason rust, crushing a towering home run in the third off Cleveland's Rafael Betancourt that went over the batter's eye in center field and a fence beyond that. It landed roughly 15 feet from a pond and 30 feet from Route 19. Abraham Nunez contributed a two-run single in the third.

Indians on the mound: Fausto Carmona replaced scheduled starter Cliff Lee, who was scratched with a strained abdominal muscle. Carmona allowed three runs in the first. Betancourt yielded three runs in the third, including Howard's solo drive.

Phillies on the mound: Myers, who struck out four, allowed two solo homers in three innings, throwing mainly fastballs and cutters. Madson allowed a homer to Francisco.

Grapefruit League records: Phillies: 1-1; Indians 1-1.

Up next: Adam Eaton will make his Phillies debut against the Red Sox in Fort Myers on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. ET. He'll be opposed by Tim Wakefield. Geoff Geary, Matt Smith and Brian Mazone are also scheduled to pitch for Philadelphia, with Jonathan Papelbon and Joel Pineiro slated to go for Boston.

The Indians will pay a visit to nearby Lakeland to face the Tigers at 1:05 p.m. on Saturday. Left-hander Jeremy Sowers will get the start opposite southpaw Nate Robertson.
