    Phillies Sign Barajas

Phillies signed catcher Rod Barajas, who had been with the Rangers, to a one-year contract with a club option for 2008.
It's believed that he's guaranteed $2.5 million. Barajas will battle Carlos Ruiz to be the Phillies' starting catcher. Either way, it probably won't be more than an 60/40 split between the two. Given 300 at-bats, Barajas could be good for 10-12 homers and 40 RBI, making him a bit more than a $1 catcher.
They needed someone so why ot get the best available catcher.

I like this move. Rod Barajas is never going into the Hall of Fame, nor will he be considered one of the best at his position, but he is more than adequate and calls a great game. He should be able to work with the Phillies pitchers to bring the kids along.
He is a professional and will give the team what it needs.

Philly fans who were looking forward to the signing of Alfonso Soriano should be appeased with Barajas instead.

so Rod Barajas backed out of signing with Toronto because the money was not enough (due to the union pushing him), now he signed for less years and less money, nice

    <---his agent and union rep

anyway its good signing for the phillies
