Joe Blanton did his part.

Oakland's 24-year-old right-hander turned in seven stellar performances in August and walked away with just three wins to show for it.

"A lot of people think it's our job to get wins, but I don't necessarily think so," Blanton said on Aug. 21. "I think it's our job to keep your team in the game and give them the opportunity to get the win at the end of the game."

That's exactly what he did all August. Blanton posted an American League-best 1.17 ERA to go along with a 3-1 record and 36 strikeouts in 46 innings to pick up his second American League Rookie of the Month award. Coinciding with Blanton's surge, the A's went 17-11 and wound up right back in the hunt for a playoff spot in August.
Blanton and Chacin have both won the award twice now...they have similar #'s discounting the records...Blanton is 8-11 and Chacin is 12-8.
