Considering the A's gave the rights to SF in the first place, they're lucky (greedy) to get anything.
Well shit, nobody held a gun to the A's to move from Philadelphia to Kansas City back when both L.A. and San Francisco were available as MLB cities and then move to Oakland to be the #2 team in the Bay Area.
What's with all this "rights" stuff anyway?
The Yankees didn't have any inherent "rights" to disallow the Mets from playing in Queens, and Queens is much closer to the Bronx than San Jose is to San Francisco.
Hell, Oakland is closer to SF than San Jose.

San Jose and the rest of Santa Clara County used to be shared turf between the A's and the Giants until the late A's owner signed away exclusive rights to Santa Clara so that the Giants could seek a stadium vote there. The belief that the A's owner gave the rights away out of generosity may have been exaggerated, though. With Oakland being closer to SF than San Jose, it made business sense to the A's that baseball fans in SF would be inclined to make the shorter drive to games in Oakland than to Giants games in San Jose.
Gota love geography.
Atleast this is just baseball, thank god its not college football, half of those idiots don't know shit about common sense geography!
No sources sited, but this guy claims they won't be given permission. I wish they would just make a decision.
MLB likely to uphold San Francisco Giants' territorial rights in San Jose, leaving the A's stuck in Oakland - NY Daily News
He fails to mention that the Expos were allowed to move to Washington despite the closeness to Baltimore. Yes, compensation was paid...this situation is different though since the A's gave away their rights as we've already discussed. To strip the Giants of their territorial rights to San Jose would require a three-quarters vote of the clubs, and as one baseball lawyer observed: “Clubs would realize what a terrible ‘there but for the grace of God go us’ precedent that would create in which all of their territorial rights would then be in jeopardy.” As an example of that, one can’t imagine the Yankees, Mets or Phillies voting to take the Giants’ territorial rights to San Jose away when it could conceivably open the doors for a team seeking to re-locate to New Jersey.
He then brings up the "C" word again; contraction. He suggests, like others have, the A's and Rays should be contracted. I'm sure MLB doesn't care about me, but I will give up on MLB altogether if they ever contract the A's.
