    A's Mariners @ A's; 4-game set

    7-7-08
    Washburn vs Eveland

Washburn is on a roll right now after five consecutive solid starts. He's also riding a two-game win streak, and he has lowered his ERA by nearly two points over those starts. Eveland lasted only 5 2/3 innings and lost in his last start against the Angles, as he allowed three runs on four hits. He hasn't allowed a home run in seven starts, and isn't looking to stop that streak yet.

    7-8-08
    Silva vs Duchscherer

Silva must be happy to not be facing the Tigers again. They have gotten to him early in every start, and handed him his tenth loss in his last outing. He has beat us once already this season. Duke is our lone All-Star representative. He pitched/pitches like one too. After a rough first inning, he got back on track and shut down the Sox offense and got the win. He's 0-5 in his career against the M's, mostly in relief.

    7-9-08
    Batista vs Blanton

Last season, Batista lead the M's staff with 16 wins. Now he's in the rotation only because Bedard is hurt. He worked a couple innings of relief in Saturday's game, and intern manager Jim Riggleman says that that was the best he's seen Batista in a long time. Blanton had a bad start against the Giants in the end of June, but rebounded against the White Sox on Independence Day. He dominated the plate and threw first-pitched strikes to nearly every batter, and it showed. A 7-1 crushing of the Sox gave him his fifth win, and he's looking to continue his streak.

    7-10-08
    Dickey vs Smith

The knuckleballer had some control issues in his last start against the Tigers and walked five batters in six innings, but it was the long ball that killed him. He's 0-4 with a 9.00 ERA in seven career games against Oakland. Smith tossed a complete game against the Giants two starts ago, but was unable to last into the sixth inning (for the fifth time this season) against the White Sox. He also walked a season-high six batters and allowed four runs in a 6-1 loss to Chicago.

I haven't done one of these threads in a while. *sigh* It's good to be home. Anyways, I think that we can definately take this series. We went 3-4 on this previous road trip, but we haven't let things like that get to us yet, and we can't start now. The M's have been having their own struggles, and we should capitalize on their weaknesses and take this series.

So we were down 3-1 and things weren't looking very good and then BAM! Carlos Gonzalez hits a dribbler and Johjima airmails Sexson (which is very hard to do, seeing that he's nearly 7' tall) and the ball goes into the M's bullpen and Gonzalez ends up at third. Then rookie Wes Buh-something or other hits his first major league tater and ties the game at three. Then Gregorio Petit hits a liner that goes to the wall for a double. Then Ellie pops out, but then Ryan Sweeney comes up to bat. He's batting .383 with RISP, and then lines a single to right and scores Petit and we take a 4-3 lead, which is where we are right now. Man how I missed this stuff.

Zigler gets a HUGE out (actually two outs) by getting Lopez to ground into a 4-6-3 DP. Now let's add on some insurance runs!

Ziegler does it again. Another DP. Wow.

And yay another "hit's promo". We have 7 hits tonite and counting, which means that the plaza level tickets will be $7 (and counting...) for Sunday's game. Woot woot.

A's won 4 - 3. Apparently, Ziggy has the A's record for most shutout innings to start a career and he is closing in on the MLB record. He's up to 18 innings now and the record is 22 held by a member of the 1945 Red Sox.

Yeah if Duke could keep up his tear, he may have as good an ERA as Gibson by the ASG! jk, though that would be cool to see.

btw-Wes Bankston was the guy's name who hit the homer to tie the game. He's batting .391 in his first week in the bigs. The first week can be deceiving, I know, but hey, so far so good.

If Duchscherer doesnt win this game tonight. Ill be shocked, its your best pitcher vs our version of Barry Zito.

Well it's the top of the fourth inning and we have a 2-0 lead, so so far so good for Duke.

Duke pitches his first ever complete-game, and it was a shutout to boot. Silva pitched a CG too, only he was on the short end of the stick. Duke's ERA is now like 1.78 or something. But way to go Duke! Keep it up man!

Duchscherer should start the ASG for the AL. Hes been that good. Hes helped my fantasy team a great deal. But The M's just doesn't have the offense or defense to win.

    Re: Mariners @ A's; 4-game set

Unfortunately I wasn't able to make tonite's game. Work got too busy to leave. But anyways, we're currently leading 4-1. We got to an early lead thanks to a homer by Cust, then Murphy cleared the bases with a double for the other three RBI. Blanton has been pitching well too.

And on the M's side, Batista injured himself somehow. Not sure, but he did. More on that later.

    Re: Mariners @ A's; 4-game set

Nooooooooooo I jinxed it. Blanton gives up a double to Lopez and he clears the bases and ties up the game at 4-4. So now it's a runner on second with one out and Ibanez at the plate and shit he now doubles and Blanton just blew our lead. Why? Why why why?
