Washburn vs Eveland
Washburn is on a roll right now after five consecutive solid starts. He's also riding a two-game win streak, and he has lowered his ERA by nearly two points over those starts. Eveland lasted only 5 2/3 innings and lost in his last start against the Angles, as he allowed three runs on four hits. He hasn't allowed a home run in seven starts, and isn't looking to stop that streak yet.

Silva vs Duchscherer
Silva must be happy to not be facing the Tigers again. They have gotten to him early in every start, and handed him his tenth loss in his last outing. He has beat us once already this season. Duke is our lone All-Star representative. He pitched/pitches like one too. After a rough first inning, he got back on track and shut down the Sox offense and got the win. He's 0-5 in his career against the M's, mostly in relief.

Batista vs Blanton
Last season, Batista lead the M's staff with 16 wins. Now he's in the rotation only because Bedard is hurt. He worked a couple innings of relief in Saturday's game, and intern manager Jim Riggleman says that that was the best he's seen Batista in a long time. Blanton had a bad start against the Giants in the end of June, but rebounded against the White Sox on Independence Day. He dominated the plate and threw first-pitched strikes to nearly every batter, and it showed. A 7-1 crushing of the Sox gave him his fifth win, and he's looking to continue his streak.

Dickey vs Smith
The knuckleballer had some control issues in his last start against the Tigers and walked five batters in six innings, but it was the long ball that killed him. He's 0-4 with a 9.00 ERA in seven career games against Oakland. Smith tossed a complete game against the Giants two starts ago, but was unable to last into the sixth inning (for the fifth time this season) against the White Sox. He also walked a season-high six batters and allowed four runs in a 6-1 loss to Chicago.
I haven't done one of these threads in a while. *sigh* It's good to be home. Anyways, I think that we can definately take this series. We went 3-4 on this previous road trip, but we haven't let things like that get to us yet, and we can't start now. The M's have been having their own struggles, and we should capitalize on their weaknesses and take this series.
