Jeter returns to lineup; has great game against Orioles

MLB.com: Jeter returns to lineup against Os

NEW YORK -- Derek Jeter was back in the lineup on Friday night, two days after being hit in the head by a pitch.

Jeter, who was taken to the hospital before the end of Wednesday's game for precautionary tests, said that the incident looked a lot scarier than it was.

"It wasn't bad," Jeter said. "It was all precautionary. In my opinion, it wasn't that big a deal."

A CT scan taken on Wednesday was normal, and Jeter was released from Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in less than an hour. Jeter was hit in the eighth inning of the game against the Red Sox, as Mike Timlin's pitch grazed the shortstop's left arm before hitting him in the batting helmet.

"Any time a ball hits you in the head, or comes toward your head, it's scary," Jeter said. "No problems. Everything is good."

Don't discount Jeter for some possible MVP votes.
