Mark Teixeira isn't always terrible in the Spring.

I was just looking at his stats from 2009-2011, turns out May is his best OPS month and he hit 29 homeruns in those 3 years in that month. Then he died in June. Then beasts in July. Then does well in the final two months. And then of course, you all know, he goes on vacation in the post season.

    Strange guy.

The reason I am making this thread is, do you as Yankee fans, regret having given Teix this big contract? The final power numbers look good, but his average has been dropping and so has the OPS. Have you liked the Teixeira ERA?

    Food for thought.

(Yes, of course, Cory regrets Atlanta trading a team to Texas for the guy, oooosh)

It's cool. You got Steve Marek and Casey Kotchman from the Angels for him.

I likely would have failed that Teix to LA deal if I was on Selig's TC.

That was before Tony Reagins committed career suicide with his Vernon Wells acquisition, right?

Vernon Wells is a beast. He must be because he's paid like one.

Re: Mark Teixeira isn't always terrible in the Spring.

when we won a championship i wasnt regretting it, even as he sucked his way through october and november [with the bat at least, his glove was fantabulous]. ive hated his soul ever since though. hes a pathetic hitter as a lefty, refuses to do anything but hit into the shift constantly. id like to see him bludgeoned, perfectly honest.

but, we did win a championship. so yea, its hard to add a legitimate reason to hate a contract 4 seasons in, when you didnt so much hate it the first year or two. i hate him as a ball player though, regardless of contract.

I would have failed the Texas deal. That had to have been a half dozen 5 star prospects.

I would think if the Yankees happen to win a championship with even James Loney as its first baseman, Loney will never have to pay for a BJ in NYC, let alone Teixeira.

Teixeira hit number 5 in a back and forth battle with the Orioles.

    The Orioles.

I loved the deal at the time, I wanted him to come here badly. When we stole him from the Sox it was awesome.

Now, I'd give anything for him to go. He's not a bad player, but it's frustrating how much he gets paid, to play a position that is easy to fill. He's changed his swing into more of an uppercut one and it's caused him to hit more fly balls (less hits) and not use the opposite field. If we're truly going to be at 189MM in payroll, that's a huge burden.

It is? Then why does it still take upwards of $200 million to sign Teixeira, Pujols, Fielder, or Votto to play the least premium position?

They're not being paid for their defense.
