    Yankees 2009 Random Offseason Ramblings

    Better late than never.

The Yankees have obtained catcher Chris Stewart from the White Sox for a player to be named later. Stewart played in one game for the Yankees last season. He has been with three organizations since 2002.

According to Brian Cashman, Stewart will be in Major League camp.
Normally, I wouldn't care about this one bit. But last season showed that you can never have too much catching depth. Not a move that's going to put the Yanks over the top by any means but a solid move to be safe.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

CC Sabathia yielded one run over 7 2/3 innings to beat the Pirates on Friday.
Sabathia just missed being the first pitcher this spring to go eight innings. He struck out seven and walked none while lowering his spring ERA to 4.11.

Alex Rodriguez, currently rehabbing from hip surgery in Colorado, will move to the club's spring training facility in Florida once the rest of the team heads north.

Joba Chamberlain's velocity has improved in recent outings, but still isn't back to normal.

Brett Tomko was credited with a victory after throwing three scoreless innings in his start Saturday against the Braves.
The Yankees used today to audition for the long-relief role in their pen. Tomko continued to outshine the other candidates in lowering his ERA to 1.17. Alfredo Aceves gave up one run in three innings, dropping his ERA to 4.60. Dan Giese was unable to complete his three frames, giving up three runs -- one earned -- in 2 1/3 innings. Tomko seems set to get the job.
Normally I won't be upset when a player performs well. But I'm scared that Brett Tomko is the favorite for this job...he's a terrible pitcher and I don't see how anything's going to suddenly change this year. I don't want him on the roster - Aceves has promise and Giese pitched well last season. And it seems like the Yankees are going to learn that Tomko sucks the hard way.

I guess a good bullpen isn't allowed to have any worries.

Jeter injures pinky, listed as day-to-day | MLB.com: News

Derek Jeter was removed in the fourth inning of the Yankees' 6-4 Grapefruit League victory over the Atlanta Braves on Saturday with a bruised left pinky knuckle. He is listed as day-to-day.

The injury occurred in the top of the first inning, when Jeter hit a sharp ground ball that second baseman Martin Prado bobbled. First baseman Greg Norton received Prado's hurried throw, but he collided with Jeter, as both players fell to the ground.
Good news for the Yanks that it is not serious.
