Of course you agree with reefer. You're a fan of the team that benefits the most from the screwed system.

2008 Standings
Kansas City 75-87
Baltimore 68-93
Washington 59-102
 C'mon man, there's no way you can make that argument.
I'm saying just from that one move. The Orioles and Nats offered big contracts, even if Baltimore's didn't measure up to the rest. 160 mil is still a lot. And the Nats offered the same contract as the Yankees, so they sure as hell did pony up.
Re: Breaking News: Yankees To Sign Mark Teixeira
So the Royals should have offered to Tex? They know exactly what they're doing for once, I wouldn't criticize them.

Depends on your definition of team to beat.

I never once said a small market team can't be competitive, you just keep telling me that's what I'm suggesting.
All I'm saying is it's harder for them to be competitive than the Yankees and Red Sox because they can't throw around 100 million dollar contracts like candy.
If the Yankees make a dumbass signing that proves to be a mistake (Giambi) , no big deal they'll just make another one. (Teixerra)
If the Padres make a dumbass signing/extension that proves to be a mistake (Ryan Klesko) they're up the shit creek without a paddle and have to wait until the contract runs out or hope some dumbass GM will take the contract from them.
Then what is your ****ing problem then? Who cares if the Yankees sign the "best" free agents? It doesn't mean anything! There are still plenty of other free agents to help out any number of teams. That's my point! There is no problem!! Every single teams have the means to sign big name guys! They just can;t do it every single year like a few major market teams. If you make a mistake, be creative with some trades. Salary caps doesn't change anything. Players will still want to go to NY and Boston and the cheap owners will just get cheaper. Until someone points out a REAL problem, nothing is broken. This illusion that small market teams can't keep home grown players is just retarded!

The team that won the AL East and AL pennant. Rays are still the team to beat.
Re: Breaking News: Yankees To Sign Mark Teixeira
is this number right? $185 million for 16 guys on the 40 man roster? Heard it on ESPN.

I don't care if the Yankees miss the playoffs... as long as the Red Sox miss them.
I do think it's funny that everyone got excited about how the Red Sox supposedly called Boras' bluff. Then Tex calls theirs and signs with the Yankees.

Christmas spending spree always in season for Yankees
According to Mike Lupica it's 189 million dollars for 15 players, NOT counting arbitration guys like Xavier Nady, Brian Bruney, and Melky Cabrera who could all get raises. Not to mention that he calculates that of the 88 million(really only 82 million after buyouts are paid), about 67 million has already been added on, plus A-rod gets a 5 million dollar raise, Cano gets a 3 million dollar raise....after they go through arbitration and sign a 5th starter, their payroll will probably be slightly higher than last year.
Re: Breaking News: Yankees To Sign Mark Teixeira
That's the thing though....SLIGHTLY higher
everyone thinks they're going money crazy here, when really they're going to net about a $10 mil increase or so
Re: Breaking News: Yankees To Sign Mark Teixeira
I mean, they ARE spending crazy money, it's just that they happen to be saving almost the same amount. I have no problem with them spending money...it's just that the next big money guy they sign, you can't tell me that they're affording it with the money coming off the books...
Re: Breaking News: Yankees To Sign Mark Teixeira
they're not signing any more big money guys, you can guarantee yourself that one
Re: Breaking News: Yankees To Sign Mark Teixeira
Haha, I feel like we were saying the same thing 3 days ago...
Re: Breaking News: Yankees To Sign Mark Teixeira
Haha well now it's even more the case
Re: Breaking News: Yankees To Sign Mark Teixeira
Maybe if we say it enough different times, eventually they'll HAVE to stop spending.
