You dont have a farm system. Thats why you buy whats needed. Open your eyes and see the lite. Did you have a 1st baseman in the minors ready to contribute like Tex will?
That's a no. Did you have pitchers as good as CC or Burnett ready in AAA? Again no. CC and AJ will win you 25 to 36 games combined this season. Your AAA farm system could not and wont put up CC's and AJ's numbers ever.
Once your not thinking as a Yankee fan things will be clearer for you.

Any move to get Nick Swisher out of the everyday lineup is a good one. This move makes that trade look even dumber. Teixiera is a great igning for the Yankees as he is not a flashy guy but puts up damn good numbers and plays great defense. That is going to help out Jeter whose defense is slipping and Arod who still needs help at third. I truly love this signing but I cannot say the Yankees are the paper champs or even th favorites to win the East right now. The Yankees still have a lot of question marks and red flags. They just eliminated one of those with the Teixiera signing. Looks like that luxury tax didn't bother them and don't mind paying even more next year. From all reports, it looks like the Nats made the best offer and still couldn't get him.
Another reason I like this deal, the dominoes will now fall with the other free agents.

The Nationals made the better offer!! Still plenty of free agents left! Plus the top spending teams don't always win and in fact hardly do.
Also, think of all the money they put into revenue sharing and luxury tax. Not to mention all the draft picks they are forfeiting.
