Forecast Would anyone want Hideki Matsui?

I'm of the opinion that the Yankees should try as actively as possible to trade him...he's injury prone and his best days are behind him, and he might end up being squeezed in the outfield, especially if the Yankees bring back Abreu which I would probably be in favor of. Then you have 4 outfielders - Abreu, Damon, Nady, Gardner/Melky - for 3 spots and a DH, and where does Matsui fit in?

There's the easy part, to say what they should do, but the question is could they do it?...who would want Matsui? Seattle likes their Asian players for sure but they don't seem to be in a, um, contending mood right now. He's due to make $13 mil in the last year of his deal which is a lot of money but not an unworkable amount. Any teams that would be good fits?

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Some team would like a year of Matsui who averages 20+ HRs and 100+ RBI. The Yankees would have to eat a lot of salary to get a top prospect for him or they can get quanity over quality for him. The Rangers could use him if they lose Milton Bradley. The Braves could use him in LF. Any team could find a spot for him.

On a side note, Yankee fans need to get used to the idea of Posada DHing a lot.

If you disguise him as hispanic, you might be able to talk to Omar.......but you'd still have to either eat contract, or take back Luis Castillo.

The Nationals would love to have him over Dukes and Kearns.

I also agree with you Browntown. I think the Yankees need to try and get rid of Matsui. Either get some prospects for him or get another arm if that's possible at all. Like LTR said, I'm sure some teams would love to have him. Hopefully Melky can come back next year and produce a little bit more. He had a drop off from his '07 to his '08 season. '07 he batted .273 and last year he batted .249. This isn't our biggest concern though. We need to be worrying about the rotation more than anything.

Matsui is over the hill, but they do not seem inclined to get rid of him. He never was a "Godzilla."

Matsui is a good DH but a terrible OF. There has to be some team that can use him. I like Matsui but I have wanted the Yanks to get rid of him for a few years now.

In today's market with the economy where it is, the Yanks are stuck with him.

With Ibanez getting 3/30, maybe someone will want Matsui for 1/13?

Yeah, wishful thinking, but it'd be nice.

Problem is Ibanez can do more than DH.

Yeah, that's why I think we have a better shot of seeing Burnett make all his starts than dumping Matsui.

I wonder if there are any GM's dumb enough now that SEA fired Bavasi.

Dumbrowski in Detroit, Bowden in Washington, Huntington in Pittsburgh. There's more than you think.

    Dumb, yes, dumb enough though?

Still, I can easily see how he could be traded, and also how we could be stuck with him.
