Re: Alex Rodriguez is god awful
So thats Arod's fault that guys ahead of him are not getting when he hits HRs.
Oh and since you wana play salary card, Jeter is getting 20m a year for hitting less than 20 hrs a year and under 100 rbi. Jeter has hit 20+ hrs 3 times and 100+ rbi just once, and I dont see you guys making threads on how overpaid Jeter is?
Re: Alex Rodriguez is god awful
Difference is Jeter hits second, which is neither a HR or RBI spot in the lineup, as compared to A-Rod's cleanup spot...
Re: Alex Rodriguez is god awful
So your paying 20m to a guy who hits second in the lineup. Gotch ya.
Re: Alex Rodriguez is god awful
I'm not...
But, the guy is (not counting this, one of few real down years) a perennial .310 hitter, with 15 HR and 70 RBI out of the 2 hole. He also provides leadership, defense, 20+ SB, scores 110 runs every year, 30-35 doubles, has a career OBP of .386, and a career OPS+ of 120. That's pretty damn good. And I'm not even a Yankees fan.
Re: Alex Rodriguez is god awful
Plus, think about it. His .295, 8 HR, 60 RBI season is considered a down year. For a shortstop who hits in the 2 hole, those are still fairly respectable numbers.
Re: Alex Rodriguez is god awful
What I'm trying to say is that the numbers he puts, he's overpaid, especially when you compare it to Arod's numbers, and the money he makes.
Re: Alex Rodriguez is god awful
What I'm saying is that A-rod is overpaid as well. Jeter puts up all around better and more consistent stats, and is the leader that A-rod never will be.
Re: Alex Rodriguez is god awful
Not really Arod got his money based on his performance on the field, And Jeter got his money based on his owner overpaying him, because he said (I'm paraphrasing) [ If actors can make 20m for a movie, I have no problem paying my guys 20m to play a season]
Jeter and Arod's career SB's, OBP, BA and 2B stats are very similar.
Arod has better OBS, SLUG, HR, BB, R, than Jeter.
Jeter in the same respect has better SO, 3B, and H than Arod.
If you also look at defense, Arod was/is a better defensive SS than Jeter IMO, based on the fact that Jeter never won any GG at SS when Arod was playing SS and winning GG, and coincidently Jeter started winning GG at SS when Arod moved to 3B.
Now I will question Jeter's leadership ability, first thing is that when Arod was traded to the Yanks, if Jeter the unselfish captain knows that Arod is a better SS than Jeter, why didn't he offer to move to 3B? What happened there? Did his ego get in the way? Also when Arod was getting booed, even the Mayor of NY was defending Arod, but I did not one word from Jeter, way to be a captain there. (But ofcourse according to NYJ I'm bashing the Yankees now)
Re: Alex Rodriguez is god awful
YANKEE BASHER! BEGONE WANNABE!
Look, I'm one of Jeet's biggest fans, but there's no question he doesn't deserve $20 mil, as much as I love him. The Boss was just throwing out money left and right back then.
Re: Alex Rodriguez is god awful
Listen, I'm not saying that Jeter deserves 20 million....lets be real, no player in the majors deserves what they're making. The point is that Jeter (in my mind) deserves his 20 million as much as A-rod deserves his 27 million. A-rod is more overrated in that, as stats have pointed out, his "on field performance" doesn't have as great an impact on the outcome of the games, which is the only thing that really matters.
Re: Alex Rodriguez is god awful
So because Jeter has won world series that means he isn't overated, because hasn't won a WS ring that means he's overated?
So based on that logic, Dan Marino, Barry Sanders, Barry Bonds, and ect are all overated because they didn't win championships.
Re: Alex Rodriguez is god awful
I didn't say that. Jeter is just more consistent. He puts up the same numbers year after year. You know what you're getting from him. A-rod is an enigma, and it's difficult to explain paying an inconsistent perennial loser 27 million dollars a year. In that regard, he's much like your hero Barry Bonds.

Really AROD isn't as consistent? And I didn't even include the year that he got robbed by Juan Gonzalez for the MVP.

It's not ALL ARod's fault but most of it is. He is so tight in big spots it spreads throughout the clubhouse and for our best player to have 1 RBI in 16 postseason games tells us it's mostly his fault. Wang stunk last year and last year he was the main culprit but through the course of the last few years it has mostly been Arod.

It's ARod's fault that when guys are on base he's not driving them in.
Jeter is not paid to hit HRs and Jeter has come through for us in big spots a million times throughout his career.

ARod's #s come mostly when we don't need him, in clutch situations he's nowhere to be found but if up or down 7 rtuns he'll hit that HR for you or drive in that run.
Jeter deservs $20 mil more than ARod deserves $30, at least Jeter has helped us win Championships and has come through in October which ARod has never done.
I was in awe of ARod's great #s before he became a Yankee but watching him every day for almost 5 years there's no question he's overrated and if I had a choice btw him and Jeter I'd take Jeter. Great fantasy #s do not impress me, getting the job done when we need you does and Jeter has done that most of his career while ARod hasn't most of his Yankee career.
