Cano and Wang Wanting A Pay Raise

The days of bargain-rate production from Robinson Cano and Chien-Ming Wang for the New York Yankees is over according to the New York Daily News.

The youthful Yanks want hefty pay raises more in line with the salaries of many of their veteran teammates in 2008, as revealed Friday by the arbitration figures exchanged between the Bombers and the players' respective agents.

The 25-year-old Cano, who followed up a .342 season in 2006 by batting .306 with a career-high 97 RBI for just $490,800 last year, has requested a 2008 salary of $4.55 million, 42% more than the Yanks' offer of $3.2 million. Wang is seeking a raise to $4.6 million, which exceeds what Dontrelle Willis, now with Detroit, earned with Florida in 2006 ($4.35million) after going 22-10 the previous year.

I say give it to both of them. Two great young studs that are already very good players in this league and can only get better.

They both deserve raises, but they may need to be a little more realistic

Why not? They gave Rivera and Posada raises.

And they will probably be around a little longer too.

Neither one deserves it as neither has proven to be good october players. Cano was a little better but Wang killed us against Cleveland. I'd sooner give Cano a raise but I still think he's a little immature and his play will be affected by a big salary.

Wang did falter a bit down the stretch, but he is still one one the Yankees better starters.

Wang is the best guy they currently have in their rotation. If he isn't happy, the Yankees won't do very well next season. Cano is young and relatively underpaid. He gives the Yankees the best "bang for the buck" on their roster, outside of Melky Cabrera.

He's been our best pitcher but he's not an Ace. Over the next couple opf years ideally he'll be a #3 starter for us. he doesn't deserve a huge raise b/c he was #1 by default.

I agree. And he could possibly become the #4 or #5 too. Maybe that is why both side are so far apart from each other.

Clemens got 20+ million for being a shitty pitcher last year.
