    Is Johan Worth It?

Do you guys think that Santana is really worth giving up our best prospects? Personally I don't think so. Hughes and Melky are top caliber prospects that I do not every want to ever leave this organzation. I feel that in a couple of years they will really be contributing to this club. Even though they have been contributing now I think that they will be doing even more in a couple years. Even though Santana is very inticing and I would love to see him in the rotation next season I just don't think the Yankees should do this.

But the Yankees will do the deal. Dont forget about Kennedy as well.

My only question is what final piece or pieces will we get for Nathan? You would have to call the Twins a contender if this deal passes.

Lets just get this out of the way: The Twins are not getting both Kennedy and Hughes.

Secondly, Johan Santana is the closest as you can come to a sure "ace" in the league. Phil Hughes is heretofore unproven. So I can understand the mindset behind the trade, I just don't know that the drop off from Santana to Hughes is that remarkable where we need to consider even making this trade. Especially when you factor in the salary implications.

So, no, I don't want this trade to go through.

    In a word, no

Seems like the consensus among Yankees fans is no.
Well, as you know, Roger Clemens is still a free agent. He's available.

I can deal losing a package of Melky, Hughes, and a B-level Prospect.

Santana is Santana. You won't find a better pitcher out there, but even the best have a value, and going much beyond the above package would make this deal not worth making.

I can't see why the Twins would agree to that.

Which is exactly why I think the Yankees front office is ran poorly. They do this time after time...Give up their top prospects for a big name player and then they realize how stupid they were when the big name player busts or goes downhill. Why can't they learn from their mistakes?

They wont. Look at prior moves. Santana is one of the best sp in the game. I hope we jump all over the deal and get this done today!

Melky Cabrera isn't the one guy you really sweat in this trade.

I don't think the Yankees are going to give up more than Hughes, Melky and, say, Jeff Marquez.

I'm not insinuating the Twins will do it but I think once we start ascending to our better prospects it becomes counter-productive. Hopefully the Yankees realize this but who knows. Hank Steinbrenner in charge is frightening, at least George was kind of a push over.

Melky Cabrera is hardly a commodity. He won't be someone you miss.
