Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports that the Mets and Jon Niese have agreed to a five-year, $25 million contract extension, pending a physical.
The deal buys out all three of his arbitration seasons and his first year of free agency. As mentioned over the weekend, the deal is similar in nature to Derek Holland's recent five-year, $28.5 million extension with the Rangers. According to Rubin, the deal also includes two club options which could push the total value to $52 million.
Maybe the new nose will help him pitch better because he's really not that good. More of a mid to backend starter.
