    Mets Mets Land Chris Young

Mets To Sign Chris Young: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

The Mets agreed to sign Chris Young to a one-year deal, according to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com. The deal is pending a physical. That could be more than a formality for Young, who missed most of last season with a shoulder strain before pitching in September. Agent Lon Babby represents Young.

Injuries have limited Young to just 36 starts in the past three seasons, but he was durable and effective from 2005-07, when he started 30 or more games per season. He has always been hard to hit (7.4 H/9), but vulnerable to walks (3.5 BB/9). In 135 career starts (751 2/3 innings), the 6'10'' right-hander has a 3.80 ERA.

Young will join Mike Pelfrey, Jon Niese, R.A. Dickey and Chris Capuano in the team's rotation if the pitchers remain healthy this spring. Johan Santana should join the group midway through the season.

The deal with the Mets reunites Young with two of his former Padres bosses, current Mets execs Sandy Alderson and Paul DePodesta.
Young was basically the last good starter left out on the market so the Mets went and got him. The Mets have a lot of question marks in that rotation but at least they have it filled now.

I'm a fan of Chris Young, unlike some of you clearly. Poor guy hasnt had THAT many injuries to suggest he is injury prone. He had that nasty comebacker to the face that kept him out for a while, and its a testamate to his resolve that he hasn't regressed due to a fear of the mound after that episode.

I am surprised, because , although relatively susceptable to injury, if they catch a break in that department, this rotation should be actually not half bad. A lot of risk but a lot of reward (Capuano was good for a while, same with Young, Dickey reinvented his career last year, Pelf and Niese young).

I actually wanted CY back but he hasn't pitched more than 100 innings since 2008, and he only had 102.1 that year. (or .333 depending no how you figure the partial innings)

It's become customary for San Diego sports fans to turn against their former star players. Peavy, Kevin Brown, Bret Boone, Junior Seau, Drew Brees, Donnie Edwards, LT, and Cromartie come to mind. I imagine Adrian Gonzalez is next.

Kevin Brown deserved it. He "wanted to be closer to home" (Atlanta) then took 104 million to move 100 miles north.

Padres fans already began turning on Adrian last year as the writing was starting to be seen on the wall.

    Re: Mets Land Chris Young

Going off your list, I still like Peavy, Junior, Drew Brees, LT, and Adrian

I'm indifferent with Donnie Edwards but didn't think he was worth bringing back by the point he was released

I'm indifferent with Brett Boone but didn't like that he was let go at the time.

I don't like Cromartie because, outside of that breakout year, he played like shit for us and was one of the main factors for the playoff loss last year.

I booed the hell out of Kevin Brown for reasons stated in the above post.

But that's just me. I won't argue your claim about the San Diego fan base in general. They do like to turn their backs on ex-San Diego players whether it's warranted or not. If you go to BoltTalk you wouldn't realize that Tomlinson is a Chargers legend with the way they talk about him now (same with Seau). And, as I hinted at in the last post, they were already talking shit about Adrian over at SOSD through the season last year.

Okay, granted, he lied. But being cynic that I am, I wouldn't put it past the Padres to use that as damage control for their offseason purge. Besides, if they were serious about signing an ace, Randy Johnson was available.

You're probably right. They went into fire sale mode once Brown and Vaughn split, which was stupid.

Shawne Merriman is now too irrelevant to elicit an emotional reaction from Leo. Outstanding!
