    Mets jason bay

as it is... the mets are the only team in talks with bay. last i heard, the offer was 4/65. theyre not willing... as of yet... to go to the 5th year, but they may be willing to make it an option year. still, if the mets can land bay... a top 4 of say... reyes, wright, beltran, bay, doesnt look too shabby. and if they keep castillo, who did infact have a solid year last year, and the possibility of signing bengie molina... reyes, castillo, beltran, bay, wright, molina, francoeur and i suppose murphy rounding it out... definite upgrade over last year.

    Re: jason bay

Can confirm that #Mets have agreement with Bay for 4 at $66M with easy vest for 5th year
that would be an avg of $16.5M a year for Bay from #Mets
    Joel Sherman (nyp_joelsherman) on Twitter

Thats right, Twitter is taking over. It announces everything!!!!!

This "vesting" year for the Mets is the straw that brooke the Red Sox back.

Santana, Pelfrey, Maine and Ollie, that's not too bad.

    For a AA team.

    Pelfrey, 5.00 plus ERA
    Maine, logged just 80 innings
    Perez, era near 7.00
Santana, Juan Pierre could hit a homerun off him now

    Yeah. not bad.

Yeah, there are likely still some Mets fans who would have you believe that Mike Pelfrey is the best pitching prospect in baseball. It's really a joke how overhyped New York teams' prospects are. If Carlos Gomez wasn't a Met, he would have never been taken seriously enough to be the centerpiece in a deal for Johan Santana.

And David Murphy is still going to be a superstar!

I think it's a little unfair to criticize Johan. Pelfrey's stats were terribly altered by having the worst defense you've ever seen behind him. Castillo has no range, Cora/the rest of the backup SS's weren't very good defensively, and Pelfrey LIVES on getting ground ball outs. Maine and Perez are far from sure things, but as 3 and 4 starters(or 4 and 5 if the Mets sign Pineiro), I think you could do a lot worse.

And I don't know any Mets fans who think Pelf is anywhere near the best pitching prospect in baseball, but he's got the talent to be a pretty good SP. He's got great sink on his fastball, and I think that given time, and considering he's been through 2 pitching coaches in his 3 full seasons, he'll get acclimated to what he's doing, and he'll be a solid 2-3 starter

I assume you mean DANIEL Murphy? And no one thinks he's going to be a superstar, but he has the potential to be a .285 hitting, 15 HR guy who can play 1B, 3B, LF, or RF. Not bad for a guy who is basically able to split time at any and all corner positions. Not a superstar, but a solid player.

....And I know it's been forever since I was here. But, for now at least, I'm back!
