    Mets Mets Solve Catching Dilemma

Mets trade Castro to White Sox | mets.com: News

For weeks, the Mets have been trying to figure out what they would do when Brian Schneider returned from his injury. Omir Santos was playing EXTREMELY well, and Ramon Castro was making significantly more money for less production. Well, now the Mets have traded Ramon Castro for Chicago White Sox RHP Lance Broadway. I don't know much about Broadway, but Castro was making 2 million dollars, and was not giving us much more production than Santos has. I know it's likely that either Santos fails to keep this level of production up all year, and Schneider could get hurt again, but I like the deal, since Broadway was once a top prospect, and Castro was having trouble hitting his (very high) weight.

Lance Broadway is a starter that has pretty good stuff. He has had some problems in the bigs, so maybe a change of scenery will do for him. I would think he would get a shot to get a few starts for the Mets this year.

Interesting. The Mets save about 2 million dollars by getting rid of Castro, and hopefully Santos can keep up this level of production for the rest of the season.

sure santos is unlikely to play like he has, but castro was dead weight.

Especially this year. Castro's had trouble with the bat. Not sure Broadway is any prize in return, but as long as Santos can be 2/3 of what he has shown, he'll be better than a league average catcher.

Ramon Castro = bust. He once was a prospect that the sympathetic closet Marlin fans got all excited about, but he ultimately couldn't hit for shit. It's like how reefer feels about Dallas McPherson.

He had a good year in 2007 as a half time player, and has been a serviceable backup catcher, but not for 2.5 million bucks.
