This guy has some confidence problems. He would be best to accept a minor league demonition so he can get his act together.

The difference is that Lowe is ALREADY in his late 30's. He's gonna be 40 by the time his contract ends, and if you think he'll be worth 16 million dollars when he's 40, I've gotta disagree. You're right that Perez's contract is very bad, but I don't want Lowe's either. I'd take Lowe for Perez's contract, maybe a little more, but not that 4th year. People will take a chance on a 29 yr old lefty with a great slider and a mid 90's fastball(when healthy).
Not for that money they won't.
I think the guy just needs to get his head screwed on straight and then he will be o.k.. The problem is he plays in New York and that being said there is always a lot of pressuse in NYC.
He has pitched in NY for how long now? I don't think we can keep handing out that excuse. He's just not that complete of a pitcher. Lowe at 40 will be better than Perez at 30.
This is Perez's 3rd full year in NY. 2006 he was decent by the end of the year, 2007 he won 15 games. 2008 was average, and this yr's been a rough start. I wouldn't totally discount him yet.
He needs to accept a demotion and work out whatever is troubling him.
He was shaky in Pittsburgh as well, so the New York excuse doesn't even fly.

It's more that he's never had anything consistent. Different techniques recommended in Pittsburgh, 2 different pitching coaches in 3.5 years in NY, completely different styles, each thinking there's a different problem with him. He has shown it at times, I think it's a matter of focus, and if he can maintain it(which he may with Johan mentoring him), then he could maintain his "good ollie".
Riiiiiiiight, patella tendinitis. That's the ticket.Oliver Perez will be placed on the 15-day disabled list shortly with patella tendinitis, Mets GM Omar Minaya revealed Wednesday night.
So much for trying him out in the bullpen. The Mets need a roster spot for Friday's starter, Jon Niese, and Perez was the most logical choice. He's struggled mightily and the 15 days of rest should only help him right the ship.
I can run up from behind and take out his knee with a crowbar, that'll do so damage to him, and help the Mets with one fair smack.
