Murphy had the ball in his glove just a split hair before Pineiro even touched third. Sorry if I know I could do better but then again I was an OFer. Murphy's defense will be a liability all year as I said it would in the offseason.

I'm not going to debate what you could do. But, let's be fair. Chris Duncan for example was a terrible OF when he first came up, but now he's at least solid, if not "good" in LF. So, let's not resign ourselves to Murph being a poor outfielder all year, he is likely to get better as the year goes along.

Duncan is a poor OFer now. Nothing solid about him at all. He has dropped as many fly balls as Murphy has this year. Chris Duncan couldn't have made that throw either. I just wish I had Duncan or Murphy's bat back in college or else I could be playing LF for the Mets or Cards

Shooting a dead horse is a phrase that comes to mind. That and overkill.

Daniel Murphy: Defensive Stud - Amazin' Avenue

Check out this article. It's very interesting. In fact, it shows that according to UZR, Murphy is the best defensive LF in the majors.

Which goes to show you stats don't prove everything. Anyone with a brain who has watched him play no that's not even close to being true.

I would agree to a point. He's not the best defensive LF in the majors. But he has solid range, and he has a serviceable enough arm. Yes, he's had a couple miscues, but they've all come on line drives right at him, the hardest thing for a true 1B to adjust to in LF....

He's learning, and I think he'll be a workable LF by the end of the year.

That ball on the warning track he dropped was not a line drive. Range is nice but if you can;t catch it, what's the point. Still doesn't change the fact that he is not the best LFer in the league and that you agree with me 100% and not "to a point".

You're right, that play at the track sucked. Yes, it wasn't a line drive. Yes, he's not the best LF in the majors, but you seem to think he's terrible and always will be, which is where I stop agreeing with you.

I have never said he will always be terrible but just being realistic in saying it will take a couple of years to be good.

I disagree. I mean, I'm not saying he's going to suddenly know what he's doing, but he's hitting over .300, giving good at bats, and he's decent enough to not cost us too much. I think he could learn LF as soon as the end of the year...
