    Mets vs. Arizona 6/2

Good Win for the Mets last night in a game I did not see the Mets in any way winning. Maybe Rick Peterson was right when after aquiring Victor Zambrano he said "I can fix this guy in 5 minutes." It took him a little longer than that, but so far Zambrano has been very impressive with the exception of 2 or 3 starts.

Tonight at Shea it will be Pedro Martinez (5-1 2.79 E.R.A and 83 K's) vs. former met Shawn Estes who is (3-4 3.79 ERA). Estes' era must be a career low, because I dont think Ive ever seen him with an era below 4.70

    VENUE: Shea Stadium

GAME: Arizona Diamondbacks (30-23) at New York Mets (27-26).

    TIME: Thursday, 7:10 p.m. EDT.

Pedro Martinez appears to have shaken off his sore right hip.

The New York Mets' ace will try for his third straight dominant outing in the finale of a three-game series with the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks.

After receiving a cortisone shot in his hip on May 17, Martinez has allowed just one run over 15 innings in his last two outings. The right-hander pitched five-hit ball for eight strong innings and struck out 10 as New York beat Florida 1-0 on Friday.

Martinez reached double digits in strikeouts for the third time in 10 starts this season, and walked none. He lasted more than seven innings for the second time this year, and first since tossing a complete game at Atlanta on April 10.

"That's why you go out and get a guy like Pedro -- he (shuts) a good offense down," said Mets closer Braden Looper.

Looper had a hard-earned save in New York's 2-1 win over Arizona on Wednesday night. He allowed his first inherited runner of the season to score after relieving Victor Zambrano in the ninth, and yielded three hits before striking out pinch-hitter Matt Kata for his 12th save of the season.

The Diamondbacks' defeat was their third in the last five games, and a loss Thursday would give the club its third straight series defeat.

After scoring seven runs against Kris Benson on Tuesday, Arizona left eight runners on base, and five in scoring position in Wednesday's loss.
