    Castillo Gets 4 YR Deal

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal confirms that the Mets and Luis Castillo are close to a four-year, $25 million contract.
Rosenthal sites major league sources. Castillo's return takes the Mets out of the hunt for David Eckstein. He'll look for another sucker... er, team willing to hand out Julio Lugo-type money.
He's getting a slight raise over what he got last year. He hit .301/.362 and had 19 steals. He plays a decent second and hardly ever strikes out but doesn't walk a lot either. He's a good top of the order guy for the Mets and is a better option at second than Eckstein.

Castillo is on the decline! He was hurt alot as a Twin. I just don't see the pay raise. I guess that the Mets were desperate to find a lead off man. Castillo still plays a solid 2nd base, which most likely was the reason for the resigning.

    Well, I will begin here.

This deal is complete shit because Castillo's knees are going to explode within a year.

Agreed with all of the above. This just isn't a smart signing. Maybe a year or two as a stopgap...not four years!

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. I think the Mets are going to regret this.

Possibly a mistake for 3 years down the road, but definitely the best option for now. He had surgery to partially fix his knees this offseason, and having seen him play through pain consistently last year, I think this signing was definitely worth the modest risk involved

This reminds me of the Mets signing Pedro for the term he signed for. I thought that was a bad deal when it was done and still do. I don't really like 4 years for Luis, although I think he is still a decent 2B. The Mets don't have any internal options right now and he's better than some of the other available players.

I think the Mets would have been smarter to sign Kazuo Matsui instead of Luis.

This will be Roberto Alomar all over again, minus any semblance of power.

Re: Castillo Gets 4 YR Deal

i disagree only because we saw castillo play in NY, whereas alomar just clearly could not handle the pressure. Alomar was also 34 yrs old when he came to the mets, I think castillo will be much better than Alomar was
